Our Pest Control Services in Helotes
Helotes sits in northwestern Bexar County where the Hill Country meets the San Antonio metro. The limestone terrain, mature oaks, and creek beds that make this area attractive to homeowners also create ideal conditions for pests. Fire ants colonize yards year-round. Scorpions hide under rock landscaping and work into garages. Roof rats follow tree lines onto rooftops. The warm climate keeps roaches, spiders, and mosquitoes active well into November. Helotes pest control needs to be consistent – one-time pest treatment wears off in weeks.
Stride Pest Control is a family-owned company serving Central Texas since 2013. Our San Antonio office has covered Helotes since 2020 with service members who know the area. Our work follows integrated pest management principles as outlined by the EPA – inspect, identify, then treat with the right product. Alex Randall is the certified operator on our TDA license, and every technician passes a full background check. We hold QualityPro certification from the NPMA and run on service agreements, not contracts. Our pest control services come with a satisfaction guarantee and free re-service if pests return between visits.
| Pest | Common Signs | Where to Look |
|---|---|---|
| Fire ants | Dirt mounds in yard, stinging when disturbed | Lawns, garden beds, sidewalk edges |
| Cockroaches | Droppings, musty odor, egg casings | Under sinks, behind appliances, bathrooms |
| Roof rats | Scratching in attic at night, gnaw marks, droppings | Attic, roofline, along fence lines |
| Scorpions | Live sightings at night, found in shoes or bathtubs | Garages, closets, rock walls, under potted plants |
| Subterranean termites | Mud tubes on foundation, hollow-sounding wood | Foundation walls, pier beams, plumbing penetrations |
| Mosquitoes | Bites, buzzing near standing water | Bird baths, gutters, yard drains, potted plant saucers |
| Spiders (brown recluse, black widow) | Webs in undisturbed areas, live sightings | Closets, storage boxes, meter boxes, wood piles |
| Bed bugs | Bites in lines, rust-colored spots on sheets | Mattress seams, headboard joints, outlet covers |
| Fleas | Bites on ankles, pets scratching | Carpet fibers, pet bedding, shaded yard areas |
Helotes Ant Control

Fire ants are the number one ant problem in Helotes. They build mounds across open lawn areas, garden beds, and along driveways. Disturbing a mound triggers an aggressive swarm, and the stings are painful enough to send children and pets to the doctor. Beyond fire ants, carpenter ants damage structural wood, and odorous house ants invade kitchens chasing grease and sugar.
We use a two-step approach for fire ants based on the Texas A&M AgriLife two-step fire ant control method – broadcast bait across the yard to knock down the overall colony count, then directly treat remaining active mounds. For interior ant species, we identify what you are dealing with first because the treatment differs by species. Baiting works better than spraying for most indoor ant problems since it targets the colony, not just the ants you can see. All products are pet-safe and odorless.
Helotes Cockroach Control

Helotes homes deal with two main roach groups. German cockroaches live indoors – they breed fast, prefer kitchens and bathrooms, and a small problem turns into a heavy infestation in weeks if untreated. American cockroaches (also called waterbugs or tree roaches) are larger, mostly outdoor pests that come inside through gaps in doors, weep holes, and plumbing penetrations. Both carry bacteria that can trigger asthma and allergies, especially in children. The NPMA pest guide identifies cockroaches as one of the most common household pests linked to health concerns.
German roach treatments focus on gel baits, growth regulators, and targeted crack-and-crevice applications – spraying baseboards does not solve a German roach problem. For the larger outdoor species, we treat entry points around the exterior and apply residual products that keep them from coming inside between visits. Our certified applicators, Alexander Randall and Raul Ramos, tailor the approach to the species and the level of activity we find during the inspection.
Helotes Rodent Control

Roof rats and house mice are the two rodent species we treat most in the Helotes area. Roof rats follow tree branches and utility lines to access attics, and the mature oaks throughout Helotes TX give them plenty of routes onto rooftops. Once inside, they gnaw wiring, contaminate insulation with droppings, and can cause real damage before you know they are there. A single mouse can squeeze through a gap as small as a dime. Both species carry diseases and breed quickly.
Rodent control starts with a thorough inspection. We check the attic, roofline, foundation, and every potential entry point around the home. Interior trapping removes the rodents already inside, and exterior exclusion seals the gaps that let them in. We close off pipe penetrations, gaps around AC lines, soffit damage, and any opening larger than a quarter inch. Exclusion is what separates real rodent control from just setting traps and hoping for the best. If you are hearing scratching in the attic at night, call us for a free inspection.
Helotes Mosquito Control

Mosquito season in Helotes runs from roughly March through November, with the heaviest pressure between May and October when temperatures stay above 80 degrees consistently. The creek beds and low-lying areas around Helotes collect standing water after rain, and that is where mosquitoes breed. Even small amounts of water in gutters, potted plant saucers, and bird baths are enough to produce hundreds of mosquitoes. Beyond the nuisance bites, the CDC identifies mosquitoes as carriers of West Nile virus, Zika, and other diseases.
Our mosquito treatment uses a two-prong approach. We apply adulticide treatments to foliage, fences, and shaded resting areas where adult mosquitoes hide during the day. At the same time, we treat standing water sources with larvicide to prevent the next generation from hatching. Monthly treatments during peak season keep populations low enough that you can use your yard without getting eaten alive. This service runs on a seasonal schedule and pairs well with our general pest control service agreement.
Helotes Bed Bug Control

Bed bugs are hitchhikers. They travel on luggage, used furniture, and clothing, and they do not care how clean your home is. Once inside, they hide in mattress seams, headboard joints, outlet covers, and baseboards – coming out at night to feed. The first sign is usually a cluster of bites in a line or group, followed by small rust-colored spots on sheets. The CDC recommends professional treatment for bed bug infestations because over-the-counter products rarely reach the hidden populations.
Our bed bug treatment involves targeted chemical applications to all hiding spots – mattresses, box springs, bed frames, furniture joints, and baseboards throughout the affected rooms. We schedule a follow-up inspection at 10 to 14 days to confirm the treatment worked and address any remaining activity. Bed bug extermination is a standalone service separate from our general pest control plans. Call for a free inspection if you suspect a problem – the sooner you act, the easier bed bugs are to eliminate.
Helotes Termite Control

Subterranean termites are the primary termite species in the Helotes area. They build colonies underground and reach structures through mud tubes along foundations, pier beams, and plumbing penetrations. A mature colony can contain hundreds of thousands of workers, and damage is often well underway before you notice any signs. Mud tubes on the foundation, hollow-sounding wood, and small piles of frass near baseboards are the most common indicators. Texas A&M AgriLife provides a detailed guide on subterranean termite identification and control.
Stride Pest Control holds a Termite category on our TDA license (TPCL #827449), and Alex Randall is certified for termite work specifically. We perform termite inspections, subterranean termite treatments, and Wood Destroying Insect Reports (WDIR) for real estate transactions. Termite treatment is a separate service from general pest control and is priced based on the size of the structure and the extent of the activity. Inspections are always free. If you are buying or selling a home in Helotes and need a WDIR, we can usually schedule within a few business days.
Helotes Spider Control

Most spiders in Helotes are harmless, but two species require attention: brown recluse and black widow. Brown recluse spiders hide in undisturbed areas like closets, storage boxes, and seldom-worn shoes. Black widows prefer garages, sheds, meter boxes, and wood piles. Both deliver medically significant bites.
Heavy spider webbing around the exterior of your home and wolf spiders showing up inside are signs of a broader insect control issue – spiders go where their food is. Treating the bugs they feed on reduces the spider population naturally. We also apply residual products to web sites and common hiding spots around the home. Spider treatment is included in our general residential pest control service agreement.
Helotes Scorpion Control

Striped bark scorpions are the main species in Helotes. They are most active from April through October, are nocturnal, and hide under rocks, in mulch beds, inside garages, and in shoes left on the floor. Their sting is painful but rarely dangerous to adults – children and pets are the bigger concern.
Scorpion control works best as part of an ongoing pest management plan. Scorpions eat other insects, so reducing the overall bug population around your property takes away their food source. We treat the perimeter, garage entries, and common hiding points with residual products that keep working between visits. Sealing weep holes, door sweeps, and utility penetrations also makes a real difference – we point those out during the inspection.
Helotes Flea, Tick, and Chigger Control

Fleas, ticks, and chiggers are outdoor pests that become indoor problems fast – especially if you have dogs or cats. Fleas breed in shaded yard areas and carpet fibers, ticks latch on in tall grass and brush, and chiggers are common in overgrown turf. All three bite, and ticks in particular can transmit diseases.
We treat both the yard and the interior of the home. Outdoor applications target the shaded, humid areas where these pests breed and rest. Inside, we treat carpets, baseboards, and pet resting areas. For best results, coordinate treatment with your vet’s flea and tick prevention for your pets. If you need a Helotes exterminator for fleas, ticks, or chiggers, contact Stride Pest Control for a free inspection and same-day service

San Antonio Service Area
Stride's San Antonio office at 3501 Pin Oak Dr sits just off I-10 near the Medical Center, which puts most of the metro within a 30-minute drive. The team runs routes Monday through Saturday across Bexar County and into Comal, Guadalupe, and Kendall counties, covering residential neighborhoods, commercial properties, and multi-family housing.
Route scheduling is built around geography, so your technician knows the roads and the pest pressures specific to your part of the metro rather than driving in cold from across town. That local familiarity also means they know which species are most active in each area and what construction types to watch for during inspections.
