Stride Pest Control Work Truck

Beetle Extermination Services

Stride Pest Control provides beetle control for homes and businesses across Central Texas, where beetles range from the lady beetles that swarm sunny walls in fall to the carpet beetles that quietly damage fabrics and the pantry beetles that infest stored food. Beetles are hard to control on your own because the right approach depends entirely on the species and where it is feeding.

Stride treats beetles through the Stride Forward integrated pest management process, and the first step is always identifying the beetle, because a fabric-feeding carpet beetle, a stored-food grain beetle, and an overwintering lady beetle each call for a different plan.

Every treatment is backed by a same-day service option and a satisfaction guarantee, and the products we use are odorless and colorless once dry. Because beetles and weevils infest the same stored foods, Stride also handles weevil control and general pest control around your property.

Beetles In Central Texas

“Beetle” covers a wide range of very different pests, and telling them apart is the whole ballgame, because each one is found and treated in a different place.

Beetle What To Know
Asian lady beetle Orange and ladybug-like. Swarms sunny walls in fall and overwinters indoors, sometimes staining and giving off an odor.
Carpet beetle Small and rounded. Its larvae damage wool, silk, leather, and stored fabrics.
Pantry beetles Flour, grain, drugstore, and cigarette beetles that infest stored flour, grains, spices, and dry goods.
Powderpost beetle Bores into and damages dry, seasoned hardwood, leaving fine powder behind.

Because a beetle in the pantry, a beetle in the closet, and a beetle on the wall are completely different problems, Stride identifies the species before treating.

Stride treats every beetle in Central Texas. For the one you have, see our dedicated pages: Asian lady beetles, carpet beetles, cigarette beetles, drugstore beetles, confused flour beetles, red flour beetles, sawtooth grain beetles, merchant grain beetles, and powderpost beetles.

Signs You Have Beetles

The signs depend on the beetle, but a few point the way:

  • Beetles swarming sunny walls in fall, a sign of Asian lady beetles.
  • Damaged wool or fabric with shed larval skins, a sign of carpet beetles.
  • Beetles or larvae in flour, grains, or spices, a sign of pantry beetles.
  • Small round holes and fine powder in wood, a sign of powderpost beetles.
  • Adult beetles gathering at windows and lights.

Are Beetles Dangerous?

Most beetles do not bite, sting, or spread disease, so they are not a health threat. The harm they do is to property and stored goods.

Carpet beetle larvae ruin wool, silk, and leather, pantry beetles contaminate stored flour and grains, and powderpost beetles damage seasoned wood over time. Asian lady beetles are an overwintering nuisance that can stain surfaces and give off an odor. Which beetle you have decides both the risk and the fix.

How We Get Rid of Beetles

Stride treats beetles through the five-step Stride Forward process, with species identification driving the plan:

  1. Inspect. We find the infested material, whether a pantry item, a stored fabric, or a piece of wood, or the entry points for invaders like lady beetles.
  2. Identify. We confirm the beetle, because the species points directly to the source and the treatment.
  3. Recommend. We point out the infested items to discard, the fabrics and food to protect, and the gaps to seal.
  4. Treat. We treat the source directly, whether that is the pantry, a closet, wood, or the exterior for overwintering invaders.
  5. Evaluate. We follow up to confirm the source is cleared and no new activity is developing.

Our GreenPro certification guides this reduced-risk approach.

How to Keep Beetles Away

Prevention depends on the beetle, but a few habits cover the range:

  • Store dry food in sealed, airtight containers, and discard old or infested items.
  • Protect and clean wool and fabrics, and store off-season clothing sealed.
  • Seal exterior gaps around windows and siding to keep lady beetles out.
  • Reduce moisture, which many wood- and pantry-infesting beetles favor.
  • Vacuum regularly, especially closets, pantries, and along baseboards.

Beetle Control Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of beetle do I have?

It depends on where you are finding them. Beetles in flour and grains are pantry beetles, beetles damaging wool are carpet beetles, beetles on sunny walls in fall are Asian lady beetles, and small holes with powder in wood point to powderpost beetles. Identifying the species drives the treatment.

Are the ladybugs swarming my house a problem?

Those are usually Asian lady beetles, which overwinter indoors, cluster on sunny walls, and can stain surfaces and give off an odor. Sealing entry points and treating the exterior before fall keeps them out.

What’s eating holes in my wool sweaters?

Most likely carpet beetle larvae, which feed on wool, silk, and leather. Cleaning and sealing garments for storage and treating the closet clears them.

How did beetles get into my flour and pantry?

Pantry beetles often arrive already inside packaged dry goods from the store. Sealing food in airtight containers and discarding infested items stops them from spreading through the pantry.
